There are two species located in your area, the Pacific Horned Lizard and the Desert Horned Lizard. The Pacific Horned LIzard is highly protected and should not be messed with, take pictures but that's it. Look around areas where there is an abundance of red ants, you likely will not see many adults at this time because it's starting to get late in the season, next spring might be better, however you might find some young. Please read the laws of California, also might look at our site with respect to desert horned lizards and familiarize yourself with thier life history. I am very iffy about giving out information on California because of the rash of illegal horned lizards I have seen this year on the net, and what ever is there you can multiply expedintially--so please be considerwte...Cheers!

Thanks. All I want is some pics. I recieved an email from a lady in southern California that said she bought a hl from a petshop for her husband and he dosnt want it. It's too hard for them to maintain. I'd be afraid to let them keep it when they don't know much about them. She said she lives in the south bay so if anyone lives down there would be interested I will let her know.
I live in the Los Angeles area. I am interested in finding out more about the horned lizard. So if you would like, send me her telephone number. Thanks.
Hey man,
shoot me an e-mail and I'll be happy to assist you with finding some HLs to photograph....Talk to you soon.

Help with ants. I want to know if either of these ants are ok for dhl.

My hl is a rescue and I am trying to get it to start eating. It is barely looking at these ants or mealworms. It had two mealworms three days ago and won't even look at food anymore. Any advice? Thanks
