I am a long time keeper and breeder of tokays. And believe me: 65 g is far from being on the big side, its more or less a bare minimum.
Yes, Tokays do survive, live long and even breed in 45g, 30 g even 20 g. But that still is livelong torture to an active lizard which runs around a lot at night. How can a 1 ft lizard run, jump and find various temperature and humidity zones in a 30 g tank?
In fact I do not keep Tokays in tanks smaller than 200 g and If I am honest, I think thats still on the small side. Even the tokays in my 770 g tank make use of all that room.
But you can´t recommend such sizes without being ignored in a forum. So I always recommend 65 to 100 g, which may be an acceptable compromise.
Those who keep Tokays in smaller cages should watch the difference in behaviour of the same animal in a big cage. Not only do they become much more active and vocal, but they are also much less agressive and often significantly more prolific.
Please, please take that serious-always have in mind, what an ACTIVE 1 ft big lizard would need and not, what a 1 ft lizard fits into just sizewise.
