irian jaya/jungle ?

BrandonReise Sep 05, 2005 08:49 PM

i have a adult male irian jaya carpet python and id like to breed him. at first i was just going to get another i-j but now im thinking about breeding him with a jungle instead. i know for the sake of keeping the species seperate and to their true bloodlines alot of people have a problom with this sort of thing. but i think the babys would come out beautiful. has anyone ever seen one?

Not a very good idea, IMHO. You would end up with babies that you would have trouble getting rid of. Who wants a hybrid python, regardless of how it looks?
People tried this years ago with "Bornean Bat-eaters" (Retic x Burm) and found they had a lot of baby snakes that looked neat, but no one really wanted.

You are basing this on the assumption that the hybrids would come out showing the best characteristics of both species. In reality, they could come out with the worst of both just as easily.
