Go to a pet store or reptile/exotic pet shop and thumb through the "Boa Constrictor Manual"(Vosjoli, Klingenberg & Ronne). It's a small paperback that is at every pet/reptile store I've gone to. It answers every question you just asked including the average size, by region and gender, and growth rate. Its worth buying if decide a boa is right for you.
