Honduran Question...

phiber_optikx Sep 06, 2005 03:38 AM

I am curious about getting into milks and have decided that if I do, it will most likely be a honduran or a tangerine honduran. Are these good pets? Good eaters and good temperment? Also, I have noticed that some are orange/black/red and some are red/black are the ones with an orange regular hondurans? Also anyone know of a good breeder that has reasonable prices? I am looking for a pet not a breeder...

Most adults make good pets, but babies require some patience. Most hatchlings eat great, but they're bitey, flighty, and poop/musk quite a lot. My adults were a royal pain as babies and three are now over 4 foot long and are very easy to handle, and more trustworthy than many of my Kings. There's a lot of variety as far as colors go, and pricing reflects on that. Where are you located? Depending on where you live I may be able to recommend someone....your best bet would be to attend an expo/show and pic one in person. If that is not an option plenty of breeders will ship snakes, and since you're not intending to breed it you should be able to score a male for a decent price. Adult females are costly and uncommon Tom Stevens

I live in Joplin MO which is the very sw corner. about 10 minutes from OK AND KS But no big cities close enough to make it to a show very regularly... KC MO is about 2-3 hours away (depending on highway construction) so maybe when I decide it is time to get yet another snake I will make the trip... does KC have a good show?

I am not sure about shows in your area. Is there a local herp club? Or even better check into the cities within driving distance of you and look at the EVENTS section on this site. There's links to the shows and you should be able to contact some vendors or at least a promoter and you can try and get a feel for if the show is worth the drive for you. Tom Stevens

i have a tangerine dream honduran. i can tell you mine was very flighty when little and musked me a time or two. now that he is over 2 years he is alot better with handling. doesn't musk at all. eats great. he is eating f/t hoppers. i offered him a small adult mouse and he tried to eat it but decided it was to big for him.
he has never tried to bite me. very nice pet snake. only thing i don't like about him is he hides 24/7. he will come out sometimes at night but other then that the only time i see him is if i take him out. so if you get one don't be alarmed becasue you will never see him.
