My new homemade Cribo cage.........

bthacker Sep 06, 2005 10:31 PM

I know it looks like a 6th grader made it but it will serve it's purpose for the time being. They are 66" long with a built-in hide. This cage cost about $200 to make with left over material for a small rack. I kind of copied the cages from theReptiles magazine article with the built-in hides. The ones in the magazine look a hell of alot nicer...

By the way I am new to the forum. My name is Brett and I am addicted to snakes. I posted below a few pics of my new Cribos in case you missed it. Thanks for looking.

Brett, don't sell yourself short; those are fantastic looking and very functional cages!.....I'd hire you to build mine! Your design is great and I think they'll work out real well for you. Your snakes look quite healthy. Thanks for sharing.

Like the hidebox and burrow look to them. Best of luck.

I put them in their cages and they headed straight for the hole like they had radar of some sort. These guys are great! Looking forward to learning more as I keep them longer. I appreciate the compliments.

I guess you didn't know about the patent on that design but that's an honest mistake. You just shouldn't have posted that pic and I would have never known.

You'll just have send me your first clutch of babies, or you'll be hearing from my attourney.

Actually, the design I used for my cages was the original work of Greg Maxwell, who now owns "fine green tree pythons"

He bred indigos many years ago and ran a company called "cagemaster". He designed the cage specifically for indigos. I bought a couple of his cages and really like them, and then he got out of the cage making business and I made a bunch more myself. (not nearly as good as his but they did the trick)

I've been very happy with the way they've worked.
Only drawback to melamine board is it's HEAVY!

PS, I hope you figured out I'm kidding about the patent.

They are very nice. And VERY heavy. I hope I have them in their permanent location now, as I'm much older than when I first lugged them around.

I was curious if that was the same Greg Maxwell....he had some nice guys working for him way back when, very helpful. If I ever get into GTPs I'll check him out.

This cage sure was heavy!!!! I can't believe I got it up the stairs with my wife. She is 5'2" 120LBS. Tough little chick!! I am going to start working with plastic one of these days but I guess I will have to check with the patent office before I get started!!!

The Cribos seem to be doing well and they definitely use the hide and it's nice to be able to sneak a peak when they are relaxing in there. It is a very functional design.

Take Care guys!! Off to Costa Rica for 12 days!!! I will post pics!
