New Addition, and First Post on the Board

HoodedHoy Sep 06, 2005 11:04 PM

Hi all,
I just got a new corn and I wanted to share, I'm excited because I haven't had a snake for a couple years and a little apprehensive because of the bad luck I had with my last snake. My new baby is a female sunglow with a neat little head marking that connects to the sides of her neck. I foolishly forgot to ask the breeder what she was het for, but I probably won't breed her regardless. I haven't come up with a name yet, but after she has settled in and eaten I'll try to get some pics.
Cheers,
Jessie

A few years ago I got a snow corn at a show that had not been fed before the breeders had taken her on the road, she refused to eat. She lived for seven months and was only persuded to take food five times, each of those being small meals. I had to use tricks to get her to eat, until even that didn't work. She never seemed to have any interest in eating. She was a sweetie, but she just didn't have the will to survive.

its sad when things like that happen.
by bad luck i thought you meant that you caused the death.

there was a post not to long ago about a guy who fed a hatchling in a deli cup and put in on a heating pad, forgot about it and it fried

She just ate her first meal under my care! Tail first albeit, but it doesn't really matter.
Lil' whipper snapper was striking at my fingers when I got her out to feed her. After she digests for a few days I'll think about getting her used to being handled.
Now for a name and a picture!

For now I've settled on the name Cerise, I also got up some pics.
Sorry about the quality but I had to reduce the file size to put them in the photo gallery.
Enjoy.

it's a beauty! Amel I presume? How do you pronounce the name? is it like Clarice with out an L? Like on silence of the lambs... Now whenever you take it out of it's cage you need to say "Hello Clarice!" in a spooky voice. Good luck with your new snake, it won't be your last!

Thanks phiber. She is indeed an amel, the breeder said she came from reverse okeetee stock but their babies end up looking like sunglows. I should have taken a picture of her next to the normal amels at the show, you could really tell that she's going to have heaps of red.
The name is French for 'cherry', or so my name site tells me. 'Cer' is pronounced like 'Sar' in Sarah, and then 'ise' is pronounced like the 'eese' in reese. I like your suggestion though, and it is pretty close. Making movie and TV references with animal names is always fun, I have a blue tongued skink named for Tank from the Matrix and a pair of Spice Finches named Sculder and Mully in a nod to the X-Files. This time it wasn't quite intentional.
This is my third snake, and all my snakes have been corns. You just can't stay off them for long, you know?
Cheers
