got another male mossy this weekend

umop_apisdn Sep 06, 2005 11:50 PM

well, he was at a great price from people i usually get my animals from at the show, and this guy has a tiny bit of white spotting in his pattern. so even though hes pretty dehydrated and skinny, i figured i would take a chance with this guy and try to hydrate him and fatten him up. my mossies have done very well since ive had them, so i figured this one would be worth the effort if i can get him back into shape. one thing i noticed though, is that his eyes are a fairly bright yellow compared to my others. but contrary to what i previously thought, he is not u. s. sameiti, he's just a normal sikorae with a black buccal cavity. if i can get him in shape, that should round my mossies out to 2 pair.

I'm sure this issue has been addressed a thousand times here, but how do you feel about parasite removal in WC uros? Shotgun technique? Have you used the panacur powder?
Thanks for your insight...I am new to the flat-tail field and this forum has proven extremely valuable.

hey yeah kinda like what mike said. and even if my newly aquired leaftail is in desperate need of parasitic treatment the first priority is to rehydrate and nourish the animal before anything. hey mike did he have a lot of leaftails there. i went there sunday late afternoon but he didnt really have anything but lineatus. did you give him any grandis cuz i saw two that looked like they could ve been yours. my male that i got from him has a yellow ring around his eye lids, and its a whole lot brighter than my other three. did you pick up any of those "phoenix worms". those phoenix worms are pretty good especially for little babies. did you pick up anything besides that gecko.

all i picked up that one mossy. i think what i counted on his table was 2 mossies, 2 lineatus, and 5 to 7 eban's. all males. the eban's were difficult to find at first, but im guessing he still had a couple at least by the end of the show. i didnt end up bringing any of those day geckos. i recognized your brother and talked to him about it, but it looks like i might have someone else interested. as for the mossy i bought, he had pretty bright eyes too, checked the mouth and it's definitely just sikorae. but i think it screwed up my bright yellow eyes = sameiti theory. i guess i wont know until i can hold the two subspecies up side-by-side. i saw those pheonix worms at carolina pet supply and asked one of the workers what he knew about em. aside from the fact they are supposed to be a better calcium supply, he told me that they are basically a maggot from a certain african fly. after i heard that i didnt wanna mess with them. i let other people experiment with em before i do.

yeah i picked up a cup of those phoenix worms, the small ones. i use them for my dart frogs and my baby day geckos. theyre like wax worms but a little more flattend. supposedly you dont have to feed them, you just have to keep them from drying out. they wont crawl out of a shallow dish if you keep a powdery supplement in it. they have them in four sizes too. And yeah, i know what youre saying about the mossies and their eyecolor. i have the three s.sikorae and the one sameiti and each gecko has a different amount of yellow on their eyelid and a different hue around the outter edges of their eyes.
