More info on the thermostat

Chonubrid Sep 07, 2005 01:04 AM

I purchased one of those cheapo thermostats from LLL reptile myself, and it worked OK for about 5-6 months. Then I started noticing massive fluccuations on the temperatures... couldn't keep them straight. I had 3 different t-stats running (one t-stat was controlling 2 heaters, the ohter two were controlling one each.)

I replaced them slowly with much higher end models... they're so much more worth it! I would NOT reccomend those cheapo models to anybody

I only have one Alife thermostat which is three years old and still working fine but I do have more than 20 BAH 1000 thermostats and none of them have failed either with some being several years old.

I agree that thermostats like the Herp Power Thermostat by Big Apple (which I have many) is definitely better and pretty much risk free since none of my Herp Powers have failed either.

However, I do have to say I have everything of mine on expensive surge protectors and I think this is sometimes the reason of failure of some of these devices is that some people don't use surge protectors or these use the inexpensive ones.

In any event, I don't advise people to not use the less expensive on/off thermostats since these are way better than not using a thermostat if you can't afford the expensive ones.

And if your going to spend the money get a Herp Power Digital Proportional Thermostat or a Helix. I think the cost of the Ranco and Johnson Controls is ridiculous for what they are, but that is just my opinion.

Sincerely,

Winston
