Turn Latches

jonellopez Sep 07, 2005 02:08 AM

Hi

I'm not sure if this is what you call them but I'm looking for the plastic latches that they use to secure the doors of the plastic cages. Do you know where to get them (stores or online?) or what they are actually called so I can do an online search? I went to the local home improvement center and nobody seems to know what I'm talking about. Hope you guys could help. Thanks.

I found some very small ones at a Woodcraft Store in the greater Indianapolis area. I believe they were called thumb tabs. You can sort of see them on the right-hand side of the picture below. Is that what you need?

I thought mine are too small but they are very secure.

I would look at a cabinet/wood-working specialty store.

How many do you need Jonel? Drop me your address in an email and I will send you some. I have thousands. Mine are clear acrylic.

They're actually part of window screen hardware. They're intended to hold the screen into a door, window casing, etc. At home centers you can usually find them where they sell door and window hardware - eg. handles, catches, screen fasteners, etc. I've used them only on one type of cage that I made. I greatly prefer to use casement-type catches where the construction is robust enough to support them. I like the postive locking feeling the casement catch gives me, also at a glance I can be sure the lock is fully engaged.

This the plastic screen window catch as I installed on a plastic drawer box type cage...

...and this is the casement latch as installed on one of my latest caging experiments.

Hi

Thanks for the help guys! I really appreciate it. I went to Home Depot again and found the item that Matt showed in his pics. It was under the window parts replacement section and was 2" off the floor at the bottom of the diplays. There was only 3 packages left and was pushed back on the hanger. No wonder I couldn't find it. Good thing that there was a store employee that figured out what I was talking about. Thanks again for the help. Take care.
