ShawnPerry Sep 07, 2005 02:50 AM

i just recently got a 3 month old baby burm from a breeder and was wondering a couple of things that i am noticing about her that i havent seen my other snakes that i have do for one every so often it will twich its head up dont know really how to explain it but that it is a twich i own several different types of snakes and this is the first time seeing this only does it every so often and dont know if it is stress since he is new to the surroundings or what it is . Another thing is this is the first burm for me and am noticing that they seem to be a loud snake by that i mean breathing hising you name it. was wondering if this too will get better in time when she gets settled in to her surroundings

The head twitch is actually a fairly common trait in burms (and some of my gaboon vipers and rhino vipers exhibit the same behaviors); nothing to worry about. Now, if it becomes more than just a twitch (convulsions, constant gazing at the ceiling of the cage, etc.) seek veterinary advice. As far as the hissing, that, too, is normal for baby burms; it'll pass. If the hissing is accompanied by mucous discharge, gurgling, or anything like that, once again, seek veterinary advice.

My burms are adults and they still hiss fairly often.

It is a hiss but sometimes it just seems like a really heavy breath though the nose i have many snakes mainly ball pythons, first burm though but not use to hearing those sounds.

I think checking for mites is a good idea also since you just aquired that snake. Mites can make them a little more fussy too.
