Baby feeding

ladywhipple02 Sep 07, 2005 08:35 AM

I'm purchasing a baby Sinaloan for my husband for his birthday. I've never kept kingsnakes and/or milksnakes... I have two ball-pythons and an RTB. Anyway, I was wondering what baby milksnakes ate? Will they take pinkies right off the bat? Or will I have to start him on something else? Any tips would be helpful... the baby is only about a week old and I want to make sure I can get him to eat well. Thanks!

Yes, he will eat pinkies right away.
Sinaloans are very large compared to North American milks and rarely are a problem to get feeding.

All milk snakes, especially young milk snakes, are very secretive.
Keep the snake in a releatively small container with a small, tight hide box.

Place the pinky in the hide with the snake (or even place it in a deli cup with the snake) and leave it alone and completely undisturbed. Hopefully it will be gone within a couple hours.

I always like to just but the pinky with the snake before bed and leave it overnight, that way you won't be tempted to "peek" too soon and spook the snake into spitting it out.

Good luck.

Ask whomever you are getting it from what they have been feeding it, which will give you the chance to find out if it "is eating" or is straight out of the egg and hasn't fed yet. This way you will know what it has or hasn't eaten. Best of luck!

I guess I'm used to dealing with picky eaters... balls can be a pain in the butt when it comes to that. I actually emailed the guy I'm buying it from but he works all day and has not emailed me back yet. So, I thought I'd see if anyone on here could give me a quicker answer. Thanks!

No problem! I know it's not exactly the answer to the question but who would know more about if and what they eat than the person who bred them / has them now.

Sometimes they eat like pigs, and then sometimes you get the one that just doesn't want to eat. Kind of like real kids
