Heating Issues

CodyNolen Sep 07, 2005 10:00 AM

I am using one Zoomed UTH. It jsut isn't cutting it.

It's plugged straight into the wall.

It only raises the temp 2 - 3 degrees over room temp. AS of right now the room temp is 78 deggrees anfd the enclosure temp is 80 degrees.

I have the enclosure closed up as much as I possibly can. I don't know what to do.

What sized cage/tank?
what size UTH?
Screen top?
etc...

Just explain a little better or take pics of your set up.

Unless its a defect, those Zoomed UTH's can easily break 110F when plugged directly into the wall.

How are you measuring the temps? You should be using a digital thermometer or infrared temp gun, and measuring the temp on the ground above the heat pad, (ie: rest the temp probe right on the floor of the cage or hold the temp gun a half inch away). Heat pads deliver belly heat, and don't have too much of an effect on ambient heat.

If you are using one of those strip thermometers, or circular thermometers that you get from petstores, I would toss that our right now and go digital or temp gun.

What kind of enclosure are you using? If it is a glass aquarium with the UTH affixed to the bottom (outside) of the tank, then either your UTH is defective (which I deem unlikely) or you aren't measuring the temperature correctly.

Touch it with your hand ... does it feel hot to you? Remember that you are almost 100F, so what feels hot to your touch is gonna be HOT to snakey!

Good luck,
Joel

Am I supossed to have the probe on the heat pad? I had it on the ground enar it before. I just now moved it on top of it... it's working pretty well.

My set up is a glass custum tank, 2'w X 14"d 2'h. Screen mesh lid which is covered by a tarp.

I am using a digital thermomentor.

It seems to be working now.. room temp is 81 and the tank/pad temp is 89.

Now I need a thermostat. x_x.. any recommendations?
