humidity question

blue_tegu Jul 18, 2003 01:30 PM

quick humidity question...does anyone know what its supposed to be for blue tegus? im planning on having the basking light on the hot part of the cage, then having his moist hidebox on the other, cool side of the cage. if i get a mister, where should i put it in the cage...but is a mister even necessary? i plan on getting a waterfall (oh yeah, and where shoudl that go, on the cold side or hot side of the cage)? but i think a misting system couldnt hurt, too. maybe have one side hot and arid and the other cool, shady, and moist?

Hello again,

A tip: Before you spend a ton of money on waterfalls and fancy cage furniture you may want to wait until he is full grown and you can see how quickly they can trash a cage. You will find that simple is good and elaborate setups quickly become godzilla's playground. My "little" buddy Tegan has temper tantrums for various reasons and will take all of 2 minutes to destroy a freshly setup cage. Simple is also better for cleaning. Just a tip, I learned this the hard way As far as the humidty goes, my blue gets his enclosure lightly misted every other day and I just keep his hide box moist, not wet.

hey thanks, yeah ive seen mine have a few "tantrums" before, too. i was definitely keeping all that into consideration, i know these guys trash anything you give them.

We just can't have nice things! It's kind of funny really. Tegan, my blue, actually waits for me to leave the room and then destroys his cage in minutes. I can hear him banging around in there from the other room. He loves to flip everything and then sit calmly in the middle of the enclosure like "what, nothing, I didn't do it" silly Tegus!

Best of luck'!
