how long after he wakes do you bathe him?

Any time actually.
Unlike dogs, who need to retain their skin oils, reptiles can have access to water any time.

A lot of people bathe heir iguanas daily every morning, since it stimulates defecation. No matter what you use, always and immediately clean, disinfect/sterilize.

Iguanas happen to be excellent swimmers, and can hold their breath underwater for minutes.

Using a very soft brush, gentle brushing also helps cleaning off any dirt or dead skin, plus it can be enjoyable to the animal.

We give Iggi a bath every morning, and sometimes in the afternoon, too, if she is shedding. Fill a tub with warm (not hot) water up to their shoulders. If they are shedding, we use a Q tip dipped in water to gently help some of the shed off. Don't pull on shed skin, it will hurt the ig. After the bath, we towel off out ig, and take her outside to dry in the sun, sitting on our shoulder. I guess this would depend on your location and time of year.

We give her a bath the first thing in the morning. Sometimes she is awake, but still in bed, and sometimes we wake her, and then give her a bath. While the water is running, we take off her blankets, and talk to her. We turn on the UVB light, and her heating pads on her basking spot. Just before we lift her off her bed, we turn off the heating pads on her bed.
