New babies

Jeff Clark Sep 07, 2005 07:49 PM

...I had a litter of 12 healthy babies and 5 slugs born sometime tuesday. I have not seen them yet. I am in Orlando. My daughter moved them into sweater trays for me last night.

Dave,
...Seems very late and I am having mixed results. Another one laid today. 5 slugs and 5 stillborn. My daughter cleaned up the mess this afternoon and I got home tonight. The snake seems to have another dozen to lay. Probably a very slim chance that this snake will lay any live babies.

Congratulations. I'm gld to see someone else has a late season. For some reason I can never get my males interested until March - May. This always puts my clutches in Sept - Oct. One year, I even had babies born in early January. The funny thing is, I always start cooling in early November. I guess they're just going to do what they're going to do when they're going to do it.

Mike,
...I had some litters in september and october in 1995. Every year except that one and this one since 1993 all the babies have been born may through august. I think you are right about them doing it when they are going to do it.

...your daughter gets stuck with the gooey stuff every year. Was she raised around snakes or what? She must be a pretty cool kiddo. I guess her to be 25 to 30yrs old. How old is she? What type of pets does she kept? I wouldn't be surprised with the NO reptile answer. That's probably too personal, but you should be thankful that she's willing to help. Some of us daughters share our parents interests but none.

Congrats,
Linda

Linda,
....I have two daughters. They are both horse people rather than reptile people. My oldest daughter is 33 and lives in Savannah with her husband and daughter. She has helped me with my snakes for years. I don't think she really gets into it but taking care of my snakes when I am away is sort of like normal people having someone in the family dog sit when they are away from home. My gradndaughter is more interested in the snakes and will probably take over helping me with them when she is older.
