The latest from my 'Red Hot' line!

ghireptiles Sep 08, 2005 12:16 AM

I picked this girl up at the Expo in Daytona and she is the latest addition to my 'Red Hot' line. I call them red hots because they are some of the hottest red amazons out there....really extreme. Enjoy the picture!

LOL! Beautiful animal Matt. That little basin that I have, the one you produced, is doing great by the way.

Take Care,
Kemper

Hey Kemper,

Glad to hear you are happy with the basin, they are really remarkable snakes!

I love the true reds and plan on getting as many as I can for future stock....

...for quite a while now. It does seem like you must have quite a collection of reds by now (how many?). Have you already done any selective breeding on 2nd or 3rd generation babies, or are you just starting on the first generation? I can imagine that the animals you have posted for the past several months could be the foundation of a real dynasty of beauties after a few generations of selective breeding such as corns have been receiving for quite some time.

Congratulations!

Hey Kathy,

I have been acquiring special amazons for the last two years now and heavy on the reds. I think they are the rarest of the color morphs by far and I find them to be quite beautiful. I currently have 8 sub-adult to adult red animals and a few younger ones. This is the first year I have bred any amazons and was lucky enough to go 2 for 2 with a litter containing a couple of Tiger babies....one orange and one garden phase. I am at the start of the breeding of reds so hopefully I can do well in producing red animals. Thanks for the kind words and maybe some day soon I can post pictures of some baby 'Red Hots'!

I really missed my ATBs when I stopped keeping and breeding them for about the last 12 years or more. I have gotten together a 2.4 group the past 2 years, including a couple of big, long term very dark (not really all that pretty though) red females, a young CB red (with black pattern) male and 1.2 of yellow/red banded snakes.

The yellow /red male bred the 2 big females last winter/spring and they are both HUGE now. It's been SO long since I have had babies of this species, I just can't wait to see how they turn out. If only I would have kept some of my favorites from back in the late '80s and early '90s, I can only imagine how nice some of the babies would have been by now. But these are nice animals (not super special though) and a good place to start over again.

What do you think of some of those DM red/orange snakes that look hypomelanistic? I asked him and he said they have not been proven to be so, but sure look that way - those would look great mixed into some of the reds you have posted. I was going to try to see his animals in person this weekend, but couldn't go to the Anaheim show at the last minute, so will miss them after all.

and it is such so much fun seeing what comes out in the mix. Dan has some amazing animals and I agree that they look like a form of hypomelanism....only time will tell. When are the gravid girls due? It seems like it takes forever and then all of the sudden pop. I was lucky enough to see one of my females give birth and it was very cool!

that is when they used to always drop for me in the "old days". But they bred many times over quite a while, so I don't really know. They look huge, and have been off feed for over a month, although one just ate for the first time again this past week. It should be fun no matter what comes out, as long as some of them are alive and healthy. I keep looking at them, hoping maybe they will drop sooner, before I leave for 3 weeks to Az. Otherwise, hubby gets to see them before I do (he will be here while I am gone).

Mine dropped almost 5 months to the day of visual ovulation. I hope you get lots of little ones before your trip or at least Bill needs to get it on video for you lol! Good luck with them!!!
