newbie enclosure q's

Bodhisdad Sep 08, 2005 03:31 AM

First off i don't know a whole lot about dendro or mantellas both of which i'm interested in.my question is how would the new exo terra's reptile habitat enclosures work for these species. From what little i know and the looks of these enclosures, they seem like they would work real well. Holds a few inches of water at the bottom locking hinged doors that swing out, the screened top which could be modified. Whats the low down on these enclosures??? I've been thinking about a setup like this for a while now so you'll probably see me here more often. I'm well versed with broms tropicals and orchids as well. I just need to do some research on the husbandry requirements of these little jewels. Thanx,Clint

If you don't mind having fruit flies crawling everywhere.... From what I have read about this product by other people is that the gaps on each viv can differ alot, leading to alot of escaping food. With some weather striping or silicon I am sure that problem could be solved. I'm sure more people will post about their experiences with this product as well.

pretty much no matter what you do. That was one concern that I had with the exo-terra tanks. However, I do love the design and wish there was something that we could put against the vents to stop those escaping bugs.

Thanx guys, i will take it all under consideration before i decide. It will be some time before i set something up. I really like the design of those units, I first saw one at a pet store and it immediately caught my eye. Alot of details in a small package and well thought out. Clint

I think that the exo terra terrariums are overpriced and not without their problems. I dont expect to pay that much for a tank and then go to filling the gaps to keeps flies in. They are a nice setup, but rather small...even the largest one. I have one and it will be my only one. Id recommend getting an ordinary tank and creating the water setting yourself. Goodluck with those orchids,

Does anybody have any pics of their setup exo terra tanks?.. i bought one at the last show and i have to wait a couple of weeks for when i go home to set it up. so i was just lookin for some ideas for the setup and how to prevent the flies from escaping. also.. has anybody kept the screen top on it or would i need to put some glass in there to keep up the humidity?
