temporary housing suggestions

goregrind Sep 08, 2005 01:57 PM

i am thinking about rescueing an adult ball from an uneducated/uncaring/stoner owner and im short on space for the time being.

ive got three tanks, all with snakes in them the measurements are: cage1 30x12, cage2 48x13, cage3 36x18 (not heated)

should i put the new ball in cage2, my 2 small balls in cage1, and leave the cornsnake where it is.

or should i put new ball in c1 2balls in c2 and corn in c3

or corn in c1, 2 in c2 and the new one in c3, cage3 isnt heated but the whole rooms ambient temp is always between 82 and 85 and i can put a heat pad under it

thanks in advance

If you're just looking for temporary housing, look into getting a 41 qt. underbed sterilite tub. Drill some holes in it and put a heat mat under it (make sure it's one you can use on plastic... cobra brand works well) and you're good. This will allow plenty of floor space for the snake if and until you get something better.

you definitely don't want to house any of those snakes together, especially a new rescue that could be carrying unknown health problems. the rubbermaid is absolutely the best way to deal with a temp housing situation, much cheaper than losing an animal or extensive vet visits!

I'd have to agree with the above posters - keep everyone where they are at - pick up a rubbermaid/sterilite that fits the snake and a foot of heat tape, less than $15. Remember to use good quarantine procedures with your rescued snake - you don't want to spread anything through your collection!
