question about hibernating red-eared slider outside

ectothermic Sep 08, 2005 03:51 PM

I heard that putting some sort of dirt substrate at the bottom of your pond is the best choice, since RES hibernate underwater. I was just wondering if the substrate had to be a particular type of dirt. My water plants are all growing in pots full of that red volvanic dirt they use on baseball diamonds (that's what they use at my pond supply store). Is this kind of dirt OK, or should I put something else in it? Thanks

I meant to say "volcanic" dirt, not volvanic
