adult red tail boa tank size

soulfly123 Sep 08, 2005 05:50 PM

Hi, I recently got a 6 foot and change long red tailed boa from a previous owner who could no longer care for him. He is currently in a 4 foot long by 2 feet deep by 22 inches tall tank ,made of plexiglass, supplied by the old owner but not the tank he was in before. The previous owner said he is extreamly aggressive but has shown me no signs of that for the last six months. My question is this: is this tank large enough for a snake of his size?
thanks for your replies.

although the size is fairly adequate, the type of cage is really not.
It is very difficult to maintain proper humidity, heat, temperature gradient, basking area, air exchange, and more in a tank.

There are many people who build their own cages for cheap, and will gladly provide plans for them.

There are several others who sell good cages here that will provide much better care and housing than the fish tank.

So, he is not suffering in that cage (atleast regarding size/room), but if possible, would be best to move him into a more suitable cage.

Best wishes. Joe
