how to prepare a branch?

like the title says, what do i have to do to sterilize/debug a branch from a tree outside to put in my snakes cage? i read something about bleaching.... how do i do this?

In the oven @ around 400 for 20 minutes or so will do. Make sure your oven temps aren't hotter than you think. My house smelled like a campfire for a week. Not a BAD smell, but my wife was unimpressed. Duffy

I think 400 F is hotter than needed and probably hotter than is safe. From what I've read, 200 F is sufficient.
