"hypo" easten milk revisited...and a comparison

DeanAlessandrini Sep 08, 2005 09:01 PM

These 2 snakes were caught within 100 feet of one another in in Boone Cty, KY.

One is "normal" although pretty for the region (the eastern milks tend to be dark in N KY)

Anyway...you see the differences here...
BTW, both snakes are freshly shed, and Boone is not even CLOSE to syspila country. This are certainly both 100% triangulum.
They are much too large to be hatchlings, probably yearlings.

Thoughts?

Since you'll want to dispose of those little creatures you can just email me and I'll take over from there.
Nice snakes.

Wow.The "normals" A nice looker too. I've seen the babies of dark adults that had a nice red as juveniles but that is nicer.

I would definitely say it's hypomelanistic. And a very nice looking snake at that. Hang onto it, raise it up and breed it, prove out the trait. I'd love some easterns that looked like that.

Fyi...these animals are being held in KY by a friend of mine.
I hate to disspoint those who commented on the "find and release"
as I did with the first milk I caught on that site.

...but...I went right out to the same board and collected that same normal female a week after... when the hypo turned up. It was only 100 feet or so from where the hypo was found and I assume it's probably het / hypo.

I'm normally not a collector. But...in this case...well we are talking about bringing a new hypo species into the captive breeding population. Add to that the snakes were both found near an old barn. The owner of the property is burning the barn and surrounding land to build a house...driveway...etc. in the spring. We'll be re-locating every snake we can find.

These 2 milks, and hopefully a male, will be the beginning of a new line of captives, however.

I hope I haven't lost your respect now!

Lost who's respect? I would've kept them in a heartbeat lol.
