Is this normal brumation behavior?

nickoleye Sep 08, 2005 10:43 PM

My bearded dragon went into brumation for the first time last winter. She came out about March of this year, but then went back down around July. Is it normal for them to only wake up for a few months and then go back into brumation? Should I do anything to try and bring her out of it before winter and then let her go back, or what? She's still very healthy looking, hasn't lost any weight or anything, I'm just not sure if I should let her be or not.
Please respond.

Thank you.

Sorry about the pictures. Chibi's not that small any more and you don't need to see the femoral bumps

That looks like a boy to me from the pics...?
no that is not normal but not all BDs are the same. Sometimes they nap for a week or two but if he is going into brumation, make sure he has an empty tummy. A warm bath for 10 min a couple of days in a row should do it.

BTW with some BDs, once they make up their mind to sleep there's nothing you can do about it.

I wouldn't worry my boy sleeps 90% of the time and he's perfectly healthy and lazy. The only time I really see him awake and moving is right after he uses the bathroom or when I take him out for his daily walk around the house or outside which is usually after he uses the bathroom lol other than that he's usually sleeping in his corner where he can keep an eye on the baby just below him.
