shed question

raisnok Sep 08, 2005 10:54 PM

my ball python is fixing to shed for the second time since i have had him, the first shed was a bit rough, he had a hard time shedding the skin on his head area.
now i am wondering, i have the humidityranging around 60 to 70%, and the temps are the warm side 92 to 95 the cool side 80 to 82.
so far do i need to make any changes?
also i havent seen him soak, i see him drink on a regular basis, during his shedding should i put him into a container of warm water to soak for a bit each day?

Sounds like you have your ball setup pretty decent. However the humidity is a bit low considering their natural enviroment see's humidity levels in the high 80 to 90% range. We provide a water bowl big enough for them to fully submerse themselves in. If they are having a problem with shedding, it allows them to hydrate themsleves as they see fit and/or need. We average around 80% plus in humidity, course its pretty humid in the NW.

take a shallow tupperware container, cut a hole about twice as wide as the snake, fill the bottom with wet paper towels.

leave it in the cage all the time, it may take them time to use it but they will get used to it and soak for days during a shed and lately my balls have been using them as toilets!

skin conditions far worse than a poor shed. In all honesty, If I mist, it is during the shed cycle. When I notice a snake going opaque, I mark the cage and mist in the morning each day until they shed. I shed the hide only.
