It's always nice to see snakes in that perfect, natural pose. Unfortunately, my camera work does the moment no justice.

Japanese Mamushi (Gloydius blomhofii).

Here's one from Okinawa:

Okinawa Habu (Trimeresurus flavoviridis).
Unfortunately, many habu meet this demise:

Habu sake. Doesn't it look ferocious in that jar?

These smoked snakes are used in soup.

Yikes! I enjoy Japanese food, but I won't order smoked sea snake soup. Nice Habu shots.

Is there lots of places to herp in Japan? Those pic's are awesome, but I always thought of the Japanese islands as one big city. I guess I was wrong.

The islands aren't a big city. There are plenty of places to find herps.
