Neon white NJ Eastern Kingsnake -breeder female-

Keith Hillson Sep 09, 2005 10:39 AM

This female just shed and is back to her blizzard white crossbars. Ive never seen an Eastern with as clean as crossbars as she has. All her babies enjoy clean crossbars as well. The male I pair her up with (monmouth Co.) is also clean but doesnt have the glowing look she does maybe due to her crossbars being wider. Anyway onto the pics...

A close up of her crossbars. This was taken without a flash in in the shade.

Keith, what all do you still have available this year? She looks great! I wouldn't mind having some getula that looked like her.

Keith Hillson Sep 09, 2005 02:30 PM

Matt

It was huge let down but I decided to use a new untested male with her this year and she and another female I used that male on laid slugs. I shoulda used the male I normally use as they have given me perfect clutches the last 2 years of 8 and 12 with 100% hatch rate. Now Im going to use either her son on her or the old Monmouth Co. male. Here is a pic of her and the Monmouths male's son from the 2003 clutch.

2003 male...His crossbars are also glaring neon white and he doesnt have as many broken chains as his father hence I was going to use him.

One more older pic of the female. This shows again how clean and bright her crossbars are. Anybody who has kept Easterns knows it aint easy finding adults that stay bright and clean without getting that dinge look to them with age.

Freakin' Amazing. I look forward everyday to seeing new pics of yours. Keep it up Keith.

...one reason I haven't purchased any getula "yet" is because I have been looking for some like those. Except, I like the wide clean bands with that crisp color. I haven't seen very many that fit that description, and when I do I am always short of cash or space. Those are very nice, and I would love to ad some of that quality to my collection one day. Thanks for posting.

You mean like this ...

I just got a trio of longterm WC's last month from my buddy in Montgomery Co., NC and oddly enough thast what these are lol. Hell he finds them in his backyard raiding his quail and rodent pens. His backyard also opens up to the Uwharrie National Forest. I love these snakes and they are as bright and clean in person as they are in these pics. The above is my male and here are his two female counterparts. Hopefully I will have a good number of these beauties hatching out next year as both females are nice and big (4.5' and the other just under 4').

I would go into slave labor for a pair from those! They are incredible! Definitely keep me updated!

coolhl7 Sep 10, 2005 08:25 AM

That first one is unbelievable.....forget everything I said about thin bands!!!!

antelope Sep 11, 2005 10:32 AM

But as usual, I kid.

I agree...I'm sure most of us would like a nice clean white eastern with wide bands. Or orange bands. Yellow is nice too...

antelope Sep 11, 2005 10:28 AM

Keith, please put me back on the TOP of the list for 1.1 from that female, whichever male you use (personally I would go with what works, but can see your point with the son!) Should make for some awesome babies!

Isn't it odd how NJ has the best high white eastern kings AND pine snakes....
I can not think of any kingsnake more impressive than a large shiny black eastern with thin neon white chains.
you have to get a comparable male and call me when the eggs hatch (I and a whole lot of people would pay big bucks for some of those babies!!!!).

Keith Hillson Sep 09, 2005 11:05 PM

I do have a pretty awesome male. No he isnt as brightly banded like his old lady but he does have nice clean white chains on black. His only knock is he has quite a few broken chains. I used to be anal about that and now Ive loosened up a bit on it. Here he is the at 20+ years old (Ive had him for almost 4 years now). He did get it on with another Burlington Co., NJ female I have. She isnt as nice as the above female but she is a beauty in her own right. She is a 2002 hatch.

My 2002 Burlington female, laid 8 eggs all hatched out and were pretty nice.

That animal must be crossed with a Fla. or goini for sure....
Just kidding buddy (obviously). Outstanding. Very nice work.
You've got me down for a couple in '06, right?

Once my NJs start eating, I'll get you some pics. They are the most stubborn this year, only 3 of 12 have taken live pinks 5 weeks after hatching...... Howie, if you're reading this, send me some of those damn skinks, collect.

On an eastern sub-topic, it took me 10 months to get my Outer Banks babies to feed last year, but this season they have all taken live mice on their own within a month. I'm not complaining, but its just weird, and interesting. The only thing that I'm doing diferently is that I'm keeping them without supplimental heat. They are at a constant air temp. of 78F. and they are thriving.

Will

PS - Wait 'til you see some of these goofy GAs this year. Pics as soon as they digest. Later buddy.

Keith Hillson Sep 10, 2005 12:21 AM

You know its funny in that some of the babies have orange bellies (not bright orange but orange/yellow) and orange on the chains. It must come from the female as when I used the same male on my other Burlington those babies had very little to zero orange on them. Yeah I remeber some turd said that if Easterns have orange they must be part Floridana lol. Man there are some dimwits down there. Oh yeah I will hook you up for sure next season. Did you see the pics of that OBK you sent me below ? He is a real nice animal now I just need a girlfriend for him. How is his mother looking ? I was checking back in some photo's Carl sent me and she is noted as being unrelated to to his stock but he doesnt say whose stock she is and If I remember right he may have said unrelated to all stock out there. She isnt the most speckled OBK Ive seen but man I thought she was pretty. I like a little contrast in my OBK's and Im hoping that male takes more after his Mom rather than his 100% Speckled pop. Dont get me wrong the Bartlett OBK's have no equal when it comes to speckling and I do love those 100%ers.

Here is what Im pretty sure are the parents to your smokin male brereder OBK.

A 5' F1 female that I sold for Carl to Repltile Artistry...

The Father to yours who also is a f1 I believe.

I think that the crisp white and thin bands are more important than whether the chains are broken or not... that male looks great and if matched up to your neon white female there should be some full chain, neon white, thin banded neos that should be as close to perfect as anyone can hope for.

Keith Hillson Sep 10, 2005 12:26 PM

Yes thats why I was bummed I used a dud male (a Maryland X NC animal) on my super white female and she laid slugs. I know she throws killer babies with the Old Monmouth male so I was kickinmyslef in the a$$. Here is one of their offspring from 2003. He is 44" and getting some suprising size to him as I like alot of folks was under the impression NJ and northern types stayed smaller.

2003 Monmouth Co. X Burlington Co male

Another image of him and all his glossy glory!

2004 Monmouth Co., X Burlington Co. female, sister a year removed to above male. (I just sold her by the way and she isnt even gone and I miss her

I bet anything that as stunning as she looks in those photos, she must be mind boggling to see in person outside in the sunlight....

Keith Hillson Sep 10, 2005 05:31 PM

Yes pictures dont do her justice and thanks for the compliments.
