Fluval 404 Question

chewieu Sep 09, 2005 01:54 PM

I just got a Fluval 404 for our turtles. When we got it, it came with these bags of charcoal. The bags were made of a fine mesh, and they were placed in the media trays. I just bought Fluval brand replacement charcoal, however, and it's just a box of loose charcoal!

How am I supposed to put this in the filter? Do you have to buy some sort of mesh bag to put it in? You can't just pour it into the filter media tray because it's so fine it would wash through the holes..

I just don't understand why we got these nice little bags that kept it all together then the refills are just loose..

Just dump in the charcoal, tie a knott, and cut off the excess. Cheap and easy!! I have used it for fish tanks for years. Works great, just make sure you rinse it before you put it in to get rid of the charcoal dust.
