Storing Sperm

lzrdldy530 Sep 09, 2005 02:10 PM

Brick, one of my females whose harley male has been gone since April 23rd, just laid her 4th clutch since April, and finally these 2 appear to be very lightweight and moldy after about 10 days. So a good 3 months was about as long as she could store sperm. She was a good control subject since I got her as a tiny hatchling from Sandfire in '03 and raised her, so know her history and that she was never bred until well over a year old and nearly 40 grams. She's a patternless terra cotta although she looks brown during the day, which is why I call her Brick. She whistles when I handle her which I find endearing.

i have a female that has been split from her male for about 6 months now, and i've noticed that 2 of the past clutches to hatch have been deformed. 1 was missing a front leg, another was born blind in one eye.

After posting that message on Friday, an egg Brick laid on July 1st that I figured was due any minute leaked a large drop of clear liquid. I opened the egg via the slit in the egg from whence came the liquid and found a tiny dead baby. I'm starting to have less faith in eggs collected much after the male has left. If it had deformities they weren't apparent since everything was SO TINY.
