Beardie wants a new diet. What's up?

KevinR Sep 09, 2005 04:33 PM

Our beardie is a healthy happy 1 1/2 year old female. She has been eating pellets, and greens with superworm snacks since we got her. For the last 2 months, all she wants is bugs, and we have been giving her crickets as a suplement. I have issues with feeding crickets as a main food source both for parasite problems and because I do not want crickets loose in the house. Any ideas on why she would want to change her diet?

Sometimes they just get picky like that. My friends beardie goes off veggies every single winter for no apparent reason.

Continue offering greens, you can try spicing it up with different veggies. What do her salads usually consist of? Maybe she is just bored with those...try yummy tasting things like carrots, squash, bell peppers, clover, sweet clover, and berries.

She could also be gravid, although i *think* its a little late in the season for that, if she is gravid or going through a reproductive cycle she may be trying to cram herself with protein.

if you are looking for different feeder insects try silkworms, they are nutritionally the best!
