Hi,
Can tortoise hear well? I am a musician and my redfoots indoor pen is in my studio and I have a tendancy to play at high volumes. Should I move him???
well i have the same question because i did not know if if should move them when i vacume
Torts are more sensitive to vibration but I would say they
can hear (since all sound produces some level of vibration)
even if not perfectly clear. I know they have excellent
eyesight.
I don't think the vibration of a vacuum cleaner should
bother them (my tarantulas are movement/vibration sensitive
and don't even flinch when I'm right near their tanks - they're
used to it). I also have several pianos in the house, the
grand is in the living room when Teddy was indoors, I'd
play it and it didn't seem to bother him - that thing can
be loud but our floor joists were excellent and he was on
a seperate floor system so probably didn't get too much.
Now in the car, he can not tolerate even the slightest
amount of radio music - he'll get very restless, so we
don't play it at all. Also when we go for walks, he will
stop instantly and wait for a while watching, if we get near
anybody that starts bouncing a basketball. He doesn't at all
like those, but at least now he'll finally walk with me past them.
I notice outside he's not phased by the lawnmower (that's a loud
monster for sure) even when nearby, but just let an military
airplane go by overhead low and he used to run (literally run)
for cover, now he's leary but not panicky. The garbage truck
or any other large delivery truck or school bus would send him
into his shell, now he stops and tucks slightly.
Depends on the instrument and how long/loud you play, you can
tell if they're bothered, they get restless. Unless you're playing
drums I don't think it should be a problem. Your high tones
are probably wind instruments (or violin) and shouldn't bother
them like they would make a dog start howling! lol!
