How long can you blood hang out in its humid hide before it can casue problems?

bhmorrill Sep 09, 2005 05:59 PM

My blood seems to almost always be in her humid hide (small plastic container filled with moist sphagnum [sp?] moss) and I am just wondering if I should start worrying about her getting scale rot or something like that? Should I remove the hide and just provide her with a large water bowl over the heat to keep the whole cage humid? Just curious what you all think. I have kept lots of carpet pythons, ball pythons, and boas but this is my first blood and I know they are different.

Thanks,
Ben

Ben,it's o.k for them to hang out in the humid hide as long as it's MOIST not WET or DAMP.Bloods also like to defecate or urinate in the moss, so just make sure to keep it CLEAN and you should be all right.I also periodicaly let the humid hide dry out one day out of the week or two then spray it down again.Hope this helps Ash Lopez

Yes yes right on Ash. I keep humid hides for my juvies and its tough to get them out of them. I just check on them every day and pull them out and shake it up a bit to help prevent mold or bacteria from growing. Its also a good idea to change the substrate in them out regularly (weekly or so) even it doesnt get too damp. But if it should get too damp or they mess in it, go ahead and change it immediately.
