Something not seen very frequently....

An anaconda resting for hours on a 95 degree substrate. This gravid female has been cycling on and off the hot spot for weeks now. She will usually spend several hours at a time on the hot side before moving off for 6 to 8 hours. She normally would avoid substrate temps over 85 degrees. I would be tempted to question the 95 degree measurement, but I know it is correct because I use NIST traceable thermometers for all temperature measurements. Pretty amazing she takes that much heat. She is also still maintaining her darker coloration to aid heat absorption. I would probably estimate that the birth is about 8 to 10 weeks out.

` She's a beautiful Boa, Kelly. Does her temperament change while she's gravid?

I obviously never try to move her completely while she is gravid, but I have lifted the front part of her body up on occasion. She has never shown any sign of aggression when I do this, but she does try to move away from me more deliberately than she ever would when not gravid. At this size, her strength is incredible, but she has never given me any reason for concern as she has always been very even tempered.
