How old before they become more tame

hevychevy427 Sep 09, 2005 07:18 PM

My bearded dragon is approx. 2 mos old. He still scoots when I handle him. Do they not become real tame to handle without having to worry about them running off your hand and falling onto the floor until they become adults? He will let me stroke him under his jaw and he seems to like it...but he still has the flight reaction often.
Thanks
Nancy

the basic rule here is...

the more you hold them the more they become comfortable with you.

right now at two months old your dragon is more concerned with you eating them. so once they realize that you in fact are not going to eat them, they will be very friendly.

unless, you have other dangers such as cats or dogs, let them run on the floor (read my scrolling message at bottom). I've never had any dangers with dragons running around on the floor, furniture, or even myself....well I guess that i have no other pets besides dragons.

Regular handling is really the only way to tame your dragon. Just be sure not to handle them so much they become stressed, which can lead to them not eating etc. Giving them time to run on the floor but you have to make sure there are no places they can get into, where you can't easily get them out. Also, you need to keep track of them at all times, it doesn't take long for a small dragon to disappear. I had mine vanish on me when I let myself become distracted. Found her eventually clinging to the side of the couch, where I had not looked the first time. The sun was hitting the side of the couch, and that is exactly where my bearded dragon decided she wanted to be.
