mite question

CJ1 Sep 09, 2005 09:16 PM

Today I found a few mites on my argentine boa which I believe came in on a p/k rat. Rightaway I soaked him in water, sprayed with reptile relief, and quarantined him. I cleaned the cage and got rid of the substrate. It's a wooden cage and I know that mites hide in every little crack. What can I use to get them all out of the cage?

Repel* is what we have used many times with unequaled success.
No props for ProventAMite here.
It must be used spareingly and with a huge amount of COMMON SENSE ! which basically means ..... if your the type to think "just alittle more wont hurt" then please dont use this product. It will kill and continue to kill for up to 2 weeks(which will catch any hatchlings dureing their (11-15 day hatches)
Example; 55 gal tank enclosure
Clean throughly and reset the substrate of your choice"NO WATER BOWL" then apply one short shot to each end and secure the lid until no vapor is seen or 30 min has passed.
Air out the enclosure for at least 2 hours before letting the kids back in.Also spray any carpeted areas around the enclosure and or where you cleaned and bagged the old substrate.
Its very simple,Highly cost effective and most of all PROVEN to excel over anything currently on the market.
The Repel product is NOT INTENDED FOR THIS USE so.......
Never use anything containing Deet* for mite control, this product is sold in Walmarts next to the other camping bug sprays.

Mites lay eggs in cracks in wood, if you don't get them all,the mites come back. I have always used bleach, mix it with water a bit stronger than you would use for regular cleaning. Make sure the snake is somewhere else, and use a spray bottle on "stream" to shoot it right into any cracks and seams. let it sit in there for a few hours, then make sure you rinse, rinse, rinse, and air out the cage thouroughly before you put the snake back in. Bleach stinks, but it is cheap and it kills everything.
