A Jeff Corwin experience at my shop today...

Biophiliacs Sep 09, 2005 10:44 PM

I had just finished cleaning out my monkey enclosure, bleach bucket in hand, as I notice somebody eyeing my Crocodile Monitor. I made it all the way up to the counter and I thought, "Self, that guy looks a lot like Jeff Corwin.".

On my second path I confirmed who it was and I almost asked him, jokingly, "Are you Steve Irwin?". But I figured the humor wouldn't translate well, so I just asked him if anybody ever said that he looked like Jeff Corwin... he said "Actually, I am Jeff Corwin.".

I guess he's around to do a deal on Montana's Grizzly Bears. Hopefully he doesn't try to ride or pet any of them. Don't laugh, we get tourists almost every year that try to put their kid on "the nice bear's" back or attempt to hand feed them... next thing they know, they are being slapped around like a rag doll.

I was kind of surprised to see him in a pet shop. Very nice guy, not nearly as excitable as he is on TV. I thought he'd be taller, lol. We talked a bit about the Croc Monitor and my Weeper Capuchins(monkeys)... pretty cool visit.

Thats super cool, that would be great to meet him, I like Jeff Corwin better than the other animal show hosts. And that he stopped in your store is pretty cool too. Did you get any pics of him browsing your shop...thanks for sharing.

to NOT have an encounter with a Grizly Bear? I can't imagine living where Grizly Bears live. They scare the crap out of me!

Well I have been out here in griz country for about 9 years and my father in law has them at his house from time to time .I would say you see more black bears then griz out here so while walking in there known areas just making noise works great. They spray for knap weed out here and while I was spraying for it in the mountains I was sent down a path way when I got down to the botton and a nice pile of steaming bear p... I just made alot of noise and got the heck out of there.Matt has a great shop and the monkeys are a blast......

Carry pepper spray and wear little bells on your clothes. also learn to tell Grizzly poop from black bear poop. Black bear poop has lots of berries in it, Grizzly poop is bigger, has little bells in it and smells like pepper spray!
