Feeding Toads

scottcrew Jul 18, 2003 04:05 PM

I have baby American Toads. We had started with 9 little toadlets, but now we are down to 4. All of the others did not learn to eat and died. We have no problem with 2 of the baby toads eating(pin head crickets & fruit flies), but I am concerned about overfeeding them. Their tummies are looking fairly rotund and occasionally they get their bellies stuck on a tiny rock and have to struggle a bit to get off. They are growing rather quickly though in comparison to the remaing 2 which are much smaller and almost black looking (the 2 larger ones are a light brown).
Any suggestions or help? I am wanting to learn more about the care of American Toads, if anyone knows of good books or websites I would appreciate it.
TIA!

Overfeeding? How often do you feed them?

Separate them by size, this might help the little ones catch up.

I feed them when I don't see anymore bugs crawling around in the tank. When I do feed, I just dump in about 10 or so fruit flies and/or about 10 pin head crickets.
