Snake Bite, broken tooth, Help!

kennny Sep 10, 2005 09:38 AM

Hi everyone, I hope someone can give me some advice. I was feeding last night when one of my females missed the mouse and bit me, the trouble is she broke of one of her teeth in my palm of my hand - she struck again immediatly and got the mouse and ate it.

How series is a broken fang and will it regrow? can i continue to feed her or do i have to wait a few weeks to prevent infection? when she opened her mouth after feeding the was no blood or obvious wound in her mouth.

Many thanks,

Kenny.

Kenny, not to worry. Snakes loose/shed teeth all the time, and they should come back with no problem. Rinse the bite wound with a little peroxide and you should be fine also

Might be a good ideal to use tongs as well. It is hard for a snake to tell the difference between a really hot looking human hand and a frozen thawed/heated mouse/rat. It's also good to watch the angle of the snake's head, if it is angled to high, it is aiming for your hand, not the mouse.

Hi, the tongs are a good idea, i'm normally a lot more careful. this particular female is quite new and i always have to leave food over night, ive never seen her feed.

you could'nt even see her head but as my hand got close it just shot out the hide and got me, thought she was just shy but looks like she was just taking a bit longer to settle in! a lesson learned...
