Starter Geckos?

AFTfanatic Sep 10, 2005 12:11 PM

Hey, can any one tell me about a good starter gecko, or something a step above a Leo or Fat Tail? I already have a beautiful little albino Leo(Casper) and two male African Fat Taileds(Jambo and Goliath). I would like to get a new gecko species soon, for I'm moving my Ball Python to a bigger tank, and I'll have a twenty gallon free.I don't really want another Leo or Fat Tail, I'm getting a female AFT this fall to breed. As I said in my previous post, my heart is pretty much set on a Bibron's Gecko, but I'd like some experienced gecko keepers's advice. I really like Cresties, but everywhere I look they seem $75 plus, which I can't afford(I'm 14). Are there any other gecko species that can be handled to some degree, and are fairly affordable? The Bibron's gecko I mentioned is extremely healthy and alert, but is,crazily enough,an exeption for the species, It allows short periods of handling before getting squirmy. Thanx a bunch for all of your help!

You should be able to find cresteds and gargoyles for $30-$50 at reptile shows. I got my flame when he was about a week old for $30, and the guy I got him from had a lot of nice flames, fires, and harlys in the $30-$50 range. I wasn't real sure about the quality of the cresteds because of the prices so I only got one, but now I wish I had gotten a couple more.

Well if u know some about keeping them try ur hand on a bigger gecko. My cuz kept a Tokay but if ur gonna get 1 try to get it as a baby and hold it offten cuz they r not tame like leo,fat crested or gargoyles. I know what u mean when its hard to find a cheap easy gecko cuz im 15. Mayb a marbled or golden gecko. All three are like at the max 20 dollars. So look up about those

Hope that helps
