Chirping crickets

Sekoye Sep 10, 2005 12:16 PM

Hey everyone, so its been about a month that I've owned my frog, and he seems to be very healthy, with a great appetite =) Question for all you owners who feed your frogs crickets. I just went out and bought a new batch of 30 crickets, and they were huge crickets. I was a bit worried that Chode (my frog) wouldn't eat them, but he ate three this morning to my surprise. Anyways, the question at hand, are your crickets chirping like crazy?!?! This batch won't stop! Every other cricket batch I've bought have been completly silent, this batch, they all seem to be going crazy. Non stop, 24/7! Even when I enter the room, talk, or even shake the cricket keeper! Anyone else experience this? I keep my frog and crickets in my room, so you can imagine how loud it was last night! Was it because they are older? Bigger? I bought them at a new store, are these captive breed or caught? Maybe thats why they are chirping like mad?

if they have wings they will chirp. rubbing their wings across eachother like theyre playing the violin is what actually makes the noise. tearing the wings off just kills them so dont even ask. the best thing is to put them somewhere else, like the basement, attic, or garage. if these are the oldest ones youve gotten thats probably why. young ones dont really have their wings developed yet.

younger crickets do not chirp, only the older ones...I keep one thousand larger crickets at a time for the frog and the lizards...they NEVER shut up...that's one reason I'm looking into switching to roaches...they're kept in the living room and have to keep the t.v. up loud to hear over them...you could by smaller sized ones and just feed more at a time...I know plenty of places on the web sell crickets and all different sizes...they are also alot cheaper than buying at stores...
