I think my girl is eggbound.... what can I do?

TempestBled Sep 10, 2005 05:49 PM

I think my girl is eggbound... we have known she is gravid for a few weeks, last week she "pooped" egg yolks with no egg, and then today we found one dried egg in poop. She has laid one clutch sucessfully in the past (and the babies are oh so cute) We have been soaking her and putting her in a breeding box of topsoil and vermiculite to no avail.... is there anything else we can do?

She is not digging at all...

Is she still eating? Usually dragons stop eating a couple days before they decide to lay. If she is still eating, wait a few more days to see if she will lay her clutch. If she doesn't, you will have to take her to a vet to find out if she is indeed eggbound. It is possible some eggs have become ludged within her.

is she showing any signs of stress? Struggling to lay eggs that won't pass? I seem to recall reading somewhere that dragons will pass unfertile eggs a few days before laying the rest of the clutch, or maybe that was in referrence to snakes, can't recall right now.

Julia Roberts laid her eggs today... they looked awful. This was her third clutch... we got 12 live babies out of the last one... these eggs are small and shrivled... It was just weird... she never had any loss of apetite or stress signs, or digging behaviot=r in the last week or so... nothing... we are incubating the eggs anyways just to see if they start to look any better but we arent holding out any hope... anyone have any thoughts?
