Feeder rabbits or pigs

fhuici Sep 10, 2005 06:31 PM

I'm just wondering who you folks use for feeder pigs? I have a burm who is pounding 2 jumbo rats every 10 days and they barely make a lump. I'm thinking I need to starting him on feeder rabbits or baby pigs. I prefer pigs based on their nutritional value but I guess rabbits will do. Thanks

Frank

If you have a consistant supplier of pigs near by then I wouuld say go with pigs, but if not rabbits are easier to come by in most areas.

i use rabbits and the cheapest way i have found to get them is to breed them yourself just my opinion i have been breeding rabbits for awhile now and its easy to do i built 2 rabbit pens for $100 plus it cost me some money to buy my first pair of rabbits so its a little expensive to get started but once you get started a 50lbs bag of rabbit food only cost $10 and that usually last me about a month so you figure $10 a month is a lot cheaper than spending $10 a week to buy them frozen some place if i need rabbits i go grab some gas them them freeze them and i have plenty to last me the month usually i only freeze male rabbits also because i need less males than i do females

How many females do you have? Do you need to separate a mother when she has a new litter? What kind of rabbit do you use?

I want to start but there's allot more to it than just going out and buying a pair of rabbits. Do you keep them outside? If so, how do you protect against fleas, ticks, mosquitos?
