I hear that Bettye Singletary of the
Longhorn Ranch Motel and Packsaddle Restaurant
has been ousted and the new managers are NOT
herp friendly. Can anyone confirm this? I knew it
was coming as I talked to Bettye several weeks ago.

Very upsetting as that leaves only two Hotels in the
Trans-pecos, Loiuse Hammer of Wilodhorse and Roy Engledorf of the Outback Oasis.

She told me that if this happened she would be opening a
Store / gas station at the corner of 118 and Terlingua Ranch
turnoff. So if indeed that is what happened and what she does, we all know where to buy our gas.

Hey Joe, don't forget Easter Egg, Barbara and Carolyn have been down there for years and always been good to us.
As for the Longhorn, the people that had Tivos were to take it over when I talked to them in July. If that is the case, I think they will be OK and if not, I think I can talk to them.

The Easter Egg has always been good to us, you're right. I'll have to add them to the list.

I'll talk to the folks at Longhorn when I go down in November. They can't afford to get too pricey, they don't even have potable water!

It's all about options, as you know all the places down can there can fill up on holidays.

The people that run Tivo's have always been very nice and friendly. If they are the new managers at Longhorn, it should be OK....I hope.

I really don't think that Tivo and his wife will be the new managers at the Longhorn. When I was down there in June Tivo's wife said that the were approached to run the restaurant at the Longhorn. She said they were in the midst of signing a contract to move Tivo's restaurant to the Longhorn.

Joe I didn't know that, or have not heard anything about it. I know that the owner of the hotel and surrounding land was ready to sell. It's a shame that we herpers get such a bad rap. Bettie is such a nice lady and if the rumor is true I'm sure we all will be sorry to see her go.

They are 75.00 per room and I am not sure that it includes all of the taxes. I stayed at the Indian Lodge in Davis Mtn State park this year. The rooms were beyond expectations. My wife doe's not like to go herping. If she saw these rooms and the beautiful location she would want to stay forever. With taxes it was 82.00 per night. Nice pool, restaurant and the location was, Ahhh! I would not tell them I was a herper however. There is a road inside the park that closes at 10:00 P.M. that would probably be one of the choicest locations in the Davis mtns to hunt if it were legal and open. Nice to drive up during the day as the view at the top is spectacular. Take a camera for sure. You can see all of Fort Davis from there, plus 360 degrees around. Ric

I haven't heard, but if the rooms are up to $75. we'll just have to find another swimming pool.
Hopefully things will work out for everyone down there.
