Not getula at all, but rather L. t. syspila x triangulum. Pretty neat little buggers.

mattbrock Sep 11, 2005 07:28 PM

No, I am from Fayette, AL, but currently live in Starkville, MS while getting my degree.

Awesome..I have herped in Mississippi a little bit before.. only finding western cottonmouths, gray rat snakes, broad banded, diamondback, and miss.. green water snakes.. that is about it. but that was in a weeks time.. lol I usually herp NC,SC. and Fl. when I can.. Do u know anywhere to find eastern milks in NE Alabama..? i have only found them in mentone Alabama.. in Dekalb county.. and they are rare there.and what are some good counties for corns, speckled kings, eastern hogs, and mud snakes?? if u know any thanks alot..

mattbrock Sep 11, 2005 08:34 PM

That's cool. We herp MS A LOT with a lot of success. I have recorded 202 captures this year. We caught 15 yesterday, including a lot of what you mentioned you find here.

If you can come across an area where corns are abundant in AL then let me know too! LOL, I have caught one live corn in AL in the last 10 years, with 6 DOR's. All in the same county. But, I'll keep that to myself.

I can catch all the black/speckled king intergrades you can handle back home in Fayette. They are very abundant. Mud snakes....well good luck. I've caught about 5 in my life. I really don't herp AL often unless I am visiting my folks. You probably know more areas to herp than me.

Muds are REAL COMMON in mobile... but corns I have found 2 live in Dekalb county and one in russel.. how common are kings in Fayette lol.. like black rat, black racer, garter common? most are probally found under ac (tin) right? This year has been great also for me. I have one localty where i can find northern pines in NE alabama that i bet noone knows about...That I have found 8 in the past 3 years and a scarlet kingsnake.. great spot to herp in.. But kings up here are slow.. only a few blacks.. and mostly d.o.r.s And im proud to see a eastern coachwhip D.o.r in NE Alabama..I found one corn this year so far so maybe i can find another live this year lol maybe...

Hey, if you are going to the Dixie show this weekend then stop by my table and I'll show you one heck of a wc corn from Fayette.

PLEASE>>>>>>for the sake of the pines don't tell a soul where they are. Not even me.

Great herping spots can go way downhill if word gets around to the wrong folks.

Most all the kings in Fayette are found under tin or crossing roads on warm, rainy spring days. The only bad thing is my Dad won't let me keep them..lol. That is if they come off the farm.

Anyway, come on down to Dixie and we'll chat.

Hey ill see you in B'ham then lol.. can u email me and tell me what snakes u will have for sale???

ErikH Sep 12, 2005 06:12 PM

Is it this weekend?I didn't know it was already time for it again.I'll bring some of my 04 baby madison co milks with me,y'all may have already seen them,I bring them about every other show. When ever I don't bring them someone always asks about them and says I should've brought them.I never try to sell any of them,I plan to raise them for future breeders since the original pair is getting pretty old now, they were wc as adults in 99,and they only produced one fertile egg this year, which died about mid term.

Snake_Master Sep 12, 2005 06:37 PM

Do u have any snakes for sale.. and where are u from???

ErikH Sep 12, 2005 07:09 PM

I'm from Fultondale,a few miles north of Birmingham.I don't have much for sale right now, email me,click the contact me button at the top of this post.I don't want to talk about what I have for sale here since it might be considered advertising.

Snake_Master Sep 12, 2005 07:18 PM

Did it send to u?

ErikH Sep 11, 2005 04:30 AM

Are those from Madison county? They are nice.I have some from madison county, they are highly variable around there. Some look like pure syspila and a few look more eastern, and the color varies from bright red to dull red to brick red and I've seen a couple that were brown. There are a few from there that are orange,I have some of those. There has been a debate over the years about what they are, intergrades or syspila.Robert Mount's book "reptiles and amphibians of alabama"has them listed as syspila, but they are very close to the intergrade zone, and they are so variable that it's really hard to tell.

mattbrock Sep 11, 2005 02:07 PM

Erik, yes they are from Madison County. I got them from Terry Huerring. They were CBH in '03. I LOVE them, and just like Dr. Mount, I think that there are pure forms of syspila in that region, but I also think there are many intergrades. For instance the parents of these were more syspila looking, and I feel very confident that these will produce some snakes with more syspila influence than they themselves have. I can't wait to find out.
