My son caught a redsided garter and Im thinking of keeping it

cee4 Sep 11, 2005 08:58 AM

Its got a pretty good temperment going, already calmed down and its only been a week..It also ate a fuzzy and shed this week so its been a busy snake..Its missing a piece of tail, old wound already healed..

I am not sure if its a redsided or common but its dark black with yellow stripes down its body, and between the black scales is a very vivid orange that shows when its moving...Anyway to tell the sex? Can it be probed like any other snake?

It looks like a red side. From the size of it I would say female.
