You're right about lucky...how's this for a test breeding!!!!!

mgl Sep 11, 2005 09:28 AM

I decided to test breed my ghost male who was 50% poss het amel to a tangerine amel. I had 8 eggs but a lot of problems with the clutch. Carrion flies got in and destroyed most of the eggs. The entire clutch went bad except for 1 egg, which I decided the night before to switch to a new container and cut the bad eggs off. The next morning I about fainted.

Apparently mom was het anery (line she was from usually has this associated with it) and daddy ghost is het amel.

1 egg = snow 100% het hypo

Dad has all kinds of aberrancies associated with his lineage. All babies he has fathered so far (for me) have at least 1 triad that isn't normal or splotched patterned.

Odds looking better for the next week....stay tuned!!!

thanks

i can still remember when my first snow hatched, after months of waiting (this was back in the double-het to double-het days, so we were hoping for that elusive 1 in 16). So I know just how you feel. Even better, for you, since you were testing for albino, not snow and got more than you might have hoped for.

And even better than getting the snow, i think, is proving your ghost to be het/amel, that's really neat. Since i just proved my first one (ghost het amel) this year, i share your excitement about that, too. You're on the very cutting edge of this hondo hobby. Way to go!

I usually give them a few days before I sex them (that is just me, to make sure the slit is sealed and they aren't stressed)...I also haven't had time...I'm hoping for a male, though.

thanks

Wow, what great odds with one egg that did hatch. That is a very nice snow and would be a great future breeder with your snows from last year.
Great job.
Kind Regards,
Adam
