Corn Snake Constipation?

djddawg777 Sep 11, 2005 02:07 PM

Hello. I have owned an albino snow corn for about 6 years. I have never had any health problems with it until now. I fed it as normal about 2 weeks ago. I tried to feed him just recently and he had no appetite for it. When I took it out of the cage, I noticed that near his abdomen/lower body was larger/swelled up looking asnd had a dark blue color to it. His abdomen is also very soft. I did some research and think that maybe it is constipated. They said to let him soak in warm water for 15-30mins a day, and that should spark him to defecate. I have been doing that, and it isn't helping. What should I do next. I'm trying to keep from the vets office if I can. Anyone, please help. Thanks!

Where do you feed him? What kind of substrate is he on? It really sounds as if you do need to take him to the vet. Sorry, but you probably already knew that, didn't you?

Now I'm not very sure on this but i think i remember seeing a product you can add to water to aid your snake to defecate. Now im not really sure once i saw your post I tried to find it but it is no longer in my history. Sorry Couldn't be of any help.

Do you feed him on the substrate? Accidental ingestion of substrate is the most common cause of intestinal blockages in captive cornsnakes.
