I just aquired a black racer yesterday, i was at work and almost ran him over, its a juvenile probably 13 inch, i am wondering what i should feed it, im going to try pinkys but im not sure. He is very docile only tryed biting wen i first picked him up. So what do you think i should feed him, pinkys or anoles or any other ideas?

I guess that depends on your location. Northern racers, as juveniles, are fairly easy to get started on rodents but southern black racers are very finicky. I would suggest starting with pinks to avoid the financial burden of feeding a few anoles every week. I've found that gently shaking a pink with a pair of forceps will stimulate a young racer's feeding behavior. Others have had success feeding small insects like grasshoppers and crickets. Let me know what works.

ok thanks, i live in south florida. Im going to get some pinkys today so ill tell post how it went later on tonight. thanks for the advice

I bet if you place a live pink in with him, he will eat it. Racers are more sight hunters than smell. So any movement will catch his eye and hopefully he will eat it.
