Babies colour really not right, Whats wrong with them?

gavinclews Sep 11, 2005 04:03 PM

I have some baby bearded dragons that are not doing too well at the moment. I have kept beardies for a while now and have raised babies very well in the past but over the last week everything has gone wrong. Out of twelve babies i had left 3 died a couple of days ago. I checked the others and they looked ok but now another two are very inactive and close their eyes all the time. I also have three that have gone a really REALLY dark colour with all the patterns dark on the belly and everything. I cant work out what is wrong and hope someone can help me. I really want to help these babies back to normal again but they have stopped eating and dont move. Greens, crickets, they just arent bothered. What could it be??

Deffinitely take them to a vet. It's hard to know what is wrong as we don't know any of your husbantry. What are the basking temps, substrate, how many per cage, etc. Also, take one or more of the recently dead dragons (refrigerate the bodies, don't freeze) to the vet for necropsy, to help determine what they died off. Deffinitely take the ones who are currently showing signs of illness as well as a couple healthy looking ones. It is always possible they have some sort of contageous disease, so you want to separate any sick appearing dragons from the others.

The dark colors are a sign of stress, you need to find out what is causing the stress, be it improper environmental conditions (ie too cool basking spot, not enough light etc) or illness/parasites.
