Newborn Kenyan Color

keego73 Sep 11, 2005 05:32 PM

I just had a Kenyan clutch from 2 high orange parents. The resulting clutch was entirely dark brown siding with a cream color for the blotches. Every newborn clutch I have seen has been strong on the yellow/orange coloring. Would this odd coloring be normal and my other experience be weird, or perhaps they were born a day or two early? Maybe the heat was too high in the basking area for the female? Any ideas? I'm highly doubting a weird morph, as both parents were captive bred by normal snakes, and the entire clutch looks the same.

Interesting....let see some pictures.

I notice a slight color change in my kenyans after their first shed. So maybe they will change a little. But chances are your animals, even though high orange, carry genes for other phenotypes (ie. brown/ cream) Let see some pictures and we can all guess from there..

My whole clutch was exactly the same as you described! I left a Q regarding the same issue. There is absoluteley NO orange, yellow, or any other color on mine other than the dark blotches. The body color is completely pale on all my babies! And the parents are both high orange. I thought maybe it was normal and the color would come in a few days? My first Kenyan clutch so I had no clue! I need to get pics up too!

I'm working on trying to get my camera. My brother has been borrowing it for some time now. I haven't seen him for a few weeks, and may not for a few more weeks. Camera withdrawl.
